Instructions
Plan Your Installation
Choose the fireplace location, determine venting route (direct vent or B-vent), and confirm your propane supply line can reach the unit. Check local codes — most areas require a permit for gas appliance installation.
Shut Off Gas Supply
Turn off the main propane valve at the tank before beginning any work. Open a nearby burner to bleed residual pressure from the line. Confirm gas is off with a gas detector.
Rough In the Gas Line
Run a properly sized black iron pipe or flexible CSST gas line from your shutoff to the fireplace location. Use a dedicated shutoff valve within 6 feet of the unit. Do not use plastic pipe for propane lines.
Install the Firebox & Frame
Set the firebox into the framed opening or against the wall per manufacturer specs. Ensure it is level and properly supported. Frame the surround with non-combustible material and maintain required clearances on all sides.
Connect the Venting
Install the direct vent pipe through the wall or ceiling according to the manufacturer's venting kit. Seal all joints and ensure the exterior termination cap is properly positioned away from windows and doors.
Connect the Gas Line
Wrap all threaded fittings with yellow Teflon tape (gas-rated). Connect the flexible appliance connector from the shutoff valve to the fireplace gas inlet. Hand-tighten then snug with a wrench — do not over-torque.
Test for Gas Leaks
Turn the propane supply back on slowly. Apply leak detector spray or soapy water to every connection and fitting. Bubbles indicate a leak — turn off gas immediately and re-tighten or replace the fitting before proceeding.
Install Burner & Logs
Place the burner pan, ember bed, and ceramic logs according to the manufacturer's diagram. Correct log placement is critical for flame appearance and safe operation. Do not block the burner ports.
Wire the Controls
Connect the ignition module, thermostat wiring, and any wall switch per the wiring diagram. Many units use millivolt systems that don't require 120V power — confirm your unit's requirements.
Light & Adjust the Fireplace
Follow the manufacturer's lighting procedure — typically hold the pilot button, ignite, and hold for 30 seconds. Adjust the flame height with the gas valve control. Test the wall switch and thermostat operation.
Annual Maintenance
Each season: clean the glass with ceramic glass cleaner, inspect the burner ports for blockages, check the thermocouple and thermopile output with a multimeter, vacuum the firebox interior, and verify the vent is clear of debris or nests.
