Instructions

1

Turn Off Power

Flip the circuit breaker for the outlet. Use a voltage tester in both slots of the outlet to confirm power is off before proceeding.

2

Remove Cover Plate and Outlet

Unscrew the cover plate. Unscrew the two screws holding the outlet to the box. Pull the outlet out carefully to expose the wiring.

3

Document the Wiring

Take a photo of how the wires are connected before removing anything. Note which wire goes to which screw (black to brass, white to silver, bare to green).

4

Disconnect Old Outlet

Loosen the screws and remove the wires. If wires are backstabbed (pushed into holes), use a flathead screwdriver in the release slot to free them.

5

Connect the New Outlet

Connect black to brass screw, white to silver screw, bare copper to green screw. For GFCI outlets, connect LINE wires to LINE terminals only.

6

Reinstall and Test

Fold wires back into the box and screw the outlet in. Install cover plate. Restore power and test with a plug-in outlet tester.
