Instructions
Try the Plunger
For sinks, plug the overflow with a wet rag. Fill the sink with 2 inches of water. Plunge vigorously for 20 strokes. Repeat 3 times before moving on.
Use a Drain Hook
A simple plastic drain hair removal tool can pull out clogs just below the drain cover. This solves 90% of bathroom sink and tub clogs.
Clean the P-Trap
Place a bucket under the P-trap. Unscrew the slip nuts by hand and remove the trap. Clean out debris and check for the clog. Reassemble and run water.
Use a Drain Snake
Feed the snake into the drain opening and advance by cranking the handle. When you feel resistance, continue turning to break up or pull out the clog.
Flush with Hot Water
Pour a full kettle of boiling water slowly into the drain. Follow with cold water. Repeat twice to flush out dissolved grease.
Prevent Future Clogs
Install mesh drain screens to catch hair and debris. Never pour grease down drains. Monthly hot water flushes keep drains clear.
