Instructions
Prepare the Subfloor
Remove existing flooring and check the subfloor for squeaks, soft spots, and level. Sand high spots and fill low areas.
Acclimate the Flooring
Let hardwood or laminate planks sit in the room for 48-72 hours to acclimate to temperature and humidity.
Install Underlayment
Roll out foam underlayment across the subfloor, taping seams. This provides cushion and moisture barrier.
Plan Your Layout
Snap a chalk line parallel to the longest wall. Dry-lay the first few rows to plan cuts and ensure a balanced look.
Install First Rows
Start along the longest wall with spacers against the wall. Nail or click-lock planks per manufacturer instructions, staggering end joints.
Continue Across the Room
Work row by row, tapping planks together firmly. Cut end pieces with a miter saw as needed.
Install Transition Strips
At doorways and room transitions, install appropriate transition moldings.
Install Baseboards
Remove spacers, install shoe molding or baseboards to cover expansion gap around the perimeter.
